Philly Office Geeks is a local user group focused upon all aspects of the Microsoft Office System, for both developers and administrators. This group will provide a community and a forum for people to discuss and learn about the Microsoft Office System – encompassing servers and client applications.
Jim Kane, a Solutions Manager at Unisys, will present a case study on the Unisys deployment of SharePoint/MOSS. Unisys originally deployed SharePoint 2003 as one of the earliest and largest deployments in North America, supporting 34,000 users globally. Unisys is just completing migration of their deployment, including over 1 terabyte of data and 14 portals, from SharePoint 2003 to MOSS 2007. Come hear information on what they migrated, how they did it, what worked and what did not. There will an opportunity for questions.

Mike Metcalf will tell us about some SQL Server Reporting Services tips and tricks for the DBA. The keynote speaker is Hilary Cotter, who will speak about transactional replication. In this session, SQL Server MVP Hilary Cotter covers how to squeeze the best performance out of your transactional replication topology. This session covers SQL 2000 and SQL 2005, and focuses on architecture/topology, improving log reader agent performance, improving distribution agent performance, as well as monitoring your replication topology. On December 15th, 2007 Microsoft will be hosting Silverlight 1.0 Fire Starter on the Malvern, PA Office. This day long event is free to anyone who wants to learn about designing and developing with Microsoft Silverlight 1.0.

Dani Diaz: Visual Studio Tools for Office makes it very easy to develop useful Add-ins for Outlooks 2007. In this talk we will discuss the different options for developing in Outlook 2007. We will implement and Events Blogger Add-In that will automatically blog events/appointment in Outlook.
Chuck Urwiler: Without much fanfare, .NET 3.0 hit the streets late in 2006 and introduced the first version of Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) to the world. Now that .NET 3.5 has been released just one year later, there are more reasons than ever to look at implementing this new technology in your applications. In this presentation, Chuck will cover the features of WCF through several examples, showing how WCF replaces older technologies, how it can be used in SOA applications, and its built-in support for sessions, transactions, reliable messaging, and security.
philly.net Partners with DeVry for Expanded Code Camps
We are pleased to announce that DeVry University in Fort Washington will be the new home of philly.net Code Camps. This modern facility has dozens of classrooms and a large common space for refreshments and prize raffles. Our next Code Camp 2008.1 will happen on January 12, 2008 from 8:30-5:00 and will feature 8 tracks and 48 sessions.
